Starting a spiritual healing journey can feel like trying to climb Mount Everest without any gear—believe me, I get it! I have climbed my own mountain. My own healing journey started when I was 18, and let me tell you, I had no idea that what I was about to begin would change my life forever. After losing my dad to alcoholism, I felt like I was lost at sea without a paddle. Not only did I lose a parent, but I also lost my connection with my higher power. I was angry at God, and felt I needed to figure out things on my own. I had to be my own hero! Cue the years of trying to figure it all out and trying to control my life.


For a long time, I carried around my emotional baggage like it was a designer handbag (spoiler: it was not cute). I bounced between therapy, support groups, and antidepressants, feeling like I was treading water just to keep from drowning. I had many fleeting relationships trying to fill voids of rejection and abandonment. I turned into a control freak, always being right and needing control over everything in my life. I was making myself sick. One day, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. So, I decided to stop fighting the current. I made the conscious decision to embrace spirituality as part of my healing journey. I stopped swimming against the tide and let go, trusting that a power greater than myself would help guide me. And guess what? That’s when everything started to change!


As I reconnected with my higher power, I found an anchor. My traumas and old wounds didn’t disappear overnight, but I started to feel lighter. The world became a little brighter. I started smiling more, laughing more, and dare I say it, even loving myself more. Now, I want to share what I’ve learned with you because, trust me, if I can do it, so can you!

So if you’re feeling ready to start your own spiritual healing journey, I want to share some simple, yet powerful tips to get you started. Remember, healing doesn’t have to be complicated—sometimes, it’s the small steps that lead to the most profound shifts.


1. Set Your Intentions:

Get Clear on What You Want


Think of this as setting the GPS for your spiritual road trip. Before you can get anywhere, you need to know where you’re headed! Ask yourself: What am I healing from? What’s feeling out of balance in my life? Setting your intentions gives your journey a sense of purpose and direction. It’s like telling the universe, “Hey! I’m ready for this!” and opening the door for all that good healing energy to flow in. *WARNING- the moment you do this, be prepared for the changes to happen fast.


Pro Tip: Write down your intentions somewhere you can see them daily. They’ll remind you why you’re doing this on those days when old behaviors and old patterns sound way more appealing than the discomfort of healing.


2. Create a Sacred Space:

Even If It’s Just a Corner of Your Couch


Look, you don’t need to build a shrine to the gods (unless that’s your vibe, then go for it!). I will share that having a dedicated space where you can meditate, journal, or just be with yourself is a game-changer. It could be as simple as a cozy chair with a candle and a few crystals or a corner of your living room where you feel at peace.


Your space is sacred because it’s a physical reminder that you’re making your healing a priority. Plus, when life gets crazy, you’ll have your little zen den to retreat to. So light some candles, put on your favorite tunes, and make it yours.


3. Practice Daily Gratitude:

Because It’s Magic!


Gratitude is like having a magic wand in your spiritual toolbox. Seriously, it can shift your mood, your energy, and your entire perspective in seconds. When I am in the depths of my healing, I find that practicing gratitude (even for small things like my morning tea) helps me focus on what I still have instead of what I have lost.


Start small: Every morning or evening, write down three things you’re grateful for. And don’t stress—it could be as simple as “I’m grateful for toilet paper.” Whatever makes you smile, write it down. Gratitude is like a key that unlocks more blessings. By acknowledging the good in your life, even when things feel heavy, you invite more light into your heart.


4. Meditate Regularly:

Even if You Suck at Sitting Still


I’ll admit, when I first started meditating, my brain was like a toddler on a sugar high. Sitting still? No, thank you. But once I stuck with it, meditation became one of the most powerful tools in my spiritual journey. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy—just start with 3 minutes a day. Yes, that’s it! Three minutes of breathing, being still, and connecting with your inner self.


Pro Tip: When I meditate, I often visualize myself surrounded by my healing Inner Bonfire and Inner Butterfly, breathing in peace, and letting go of pain. Mother Nature is a healer! When I started spending more time outdoors, whether it was a walk through the park or just sitting outside and feeling the breeze, my anxiety started to melt away. There’s something about being in nature that helps you reconnect with yourself.

Even if you’re a city dweller, find a park, a tree, or even a patch of grass. Take a few deep breaths, feel the earth beneath your feet, and let it ground you. Mother Earth has got your back!

This journey has not been easy, I will say, that it has been worth every moment.
